Ben D. Phillips, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Phillips grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee for his undergraduate studies. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, South Carolina. He pursued his Internal Medicine Residency training at the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, in Richmond, Virginia and stayed on to complete his subspecialty fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. He is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, as well as Internal Medicine. He is married and has 4 young daughters who take up all of his free time!
Cynthia S. Ryan, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Ryan grew up in Dallas, Texas, and attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She earned her medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. Afterwards, she completed her Internal Medicine residency and her subspecialty fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, as well as Internal Medicine. She is a member of The Endocrine Society, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. She is married with two young daughters and in her free time enjoys running and traveling.
Akta P. Mukherjee, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Mukherjee grew up in Bristol, Tennessee and attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for her undergraduate studies where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine in Memphis. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston, Massachusetts and then went to the Tufts University Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts for her subspecialty fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, as well as Internal Medicine. She is a member of The Endocrine Society and The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. She is married and spends her free time running after her young son and daughter.
Kelsey E. Salley, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Salley grew up in Virginia Beach and attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate studies. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. She went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency with additional training in Women's Health at MCV-VCU followed by a chief residency where she focused on improvement in ambulatory care and teaching in the outpatient setting. She completed her subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at MCV-VCU. From 2007-2009, she also served as the program director for the Women's Health track in Internal Medicine at VCU. She is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, as well as Internal Medicine. In addition to general endocrinology, her areas of interest include Women's Health endocrinology including polycystic ovary syndrome, gestational diabetes, thyroid disease in pregnancy, and perimenopause. She is a member of The Endocrine Society and The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, biking, and spending time with her family.
Kristin W. Fabiato, MD Endocrinologist
Dr. Fabiato grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Duke University in 1998 with a degree in Biology after which she completed post baccalaureate studies at the University of Georgia. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004 where she stayed to complete her Internal Medicine Residency with a specialization in Women's Health. She completed her Endocrinology fellowship specialty training at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2009. Dr. Fabiato is double board certified in both Internal Medicine as well as Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. In addition to general endocrinology, her areas of interest include disorders of the thyroid (including thyroid ultrasound and thyroid needle biopsies), women's health, and osteoporosis. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and exercising.
Shari L. Moyers, CPC Office Manager
Shari Moyers grew up in Upstate New York, and relocated to the Southeast in the 1980's. Shari brings extensive office management and customer service experience from various medical fields, including billing services and the medical equipment field where she also worked closely with customers to assist them with their aids to daily living. She earned her coding certification in October 2003. She is the office manager and billing specialist for Virginia Endocrinology and Osteoporosis Center. In her free time, she enjoys her two dogs, gardening, and bird watching.
Deidre Faison Medical Assistant
Deidre Faison is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and is the second born of three. Deidre is currently working as a certified medical assistant here at VEOC. She is a certified study coordinator and is the study coordinator for clinical research studies at Virginia Endocrinology. She also currently attends Bryant & Stratton College where she is pursuing her Bachelors Degree in Business. She is the loving wife of Charles and devoted mother of Jayden. Deidre enjoys spending time with family and going out with friends in her spare time.
Jessica Robinson Medical Assistant
Jessica is a native of Virginia, raised in Tappahanock. She currently commutes from Tappahannock to join us here at Virginia Endocrinology. Jessica earned her Associates degree from Bryant and Stratton College, and is employed as a Certified Medical Assistant. In her spare time she enjoys raising animals, spending time with family and friends, reading, and being on the water in the summer time. She regularly donates her hair (when it has grown long enough) to "Locks of Love" a non-profit organization that provides hair and hairpieces to children with cancer and hair loss.
Carol Engelage Patient Intake Coordinator
Carol was born in St. Louis, MO and relocated to Virginia in 1974. When you call into our office you will most likely be greeted and directed with much enthusiasm and wit by Carol on the other end of the phone. We truly enjoy and appreciate her humor and personality here at VEOC. She has been known to keep us all straight and in line when the need arises. When Carol is not at Virginia Endocrinology, or not even in Richmond, she enjoys spending her spare time with her cat "Jack" and her husband at their home overlooking the bay in Mathews, Virginia.
Diandra Brown Medical Assistant
Diandra is a Richmond native and has enjoyed growing up, staying, and working in the Richmond area. She earned her associates degree from the Medical Careers Institute School of Health Science and has worked in several medical offices prior to joining us here at Virginia Endocrinology and Osteoporosis Center. She has enjoyed working as a certified medical assistant and has a passion for working closely with people. Outside of our office, while she enjoys many hobbies, what she enjoys the most is spending time with her family and friends.
Dianne Hastings Front Office / Phones
Dianne answers phones and helps greet patients to the offices of Virginia Endocrinology and Osteoporosis Center. Her humor and pleasant personality and outlook will be sure to make you feel welcome when you call or visit our office. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Dawn Smith Front Office
Welcome Dawn, our most recent member of our Virginia Endocrinology and Osteoporosis family. She will be greeting you as you enter our offices. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Anne performs all the bone density (BMD/DXA) studies at Virginia Endocrinology and Osteoporosis Center. She has extensive years of experience performing bone density studies and she has been certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD). Not only has she been performing bone density scans herself, but she has trained many of the bone densitometry technicians in the region on performing studies in their prospective institutions. In her free time she has enjoyed extensive travel and exploration across many countries. She has recently developed a passion for playing the strategic Chinese tile game Mahjong!
